The San Marcos Police Officers' Association (SMPOA) was formed in 1995 by concerned officers who wanted to develop a labor oriented association to work toward improving benefits and the quality of service provided by San Marcos Police Officers to the community. To this end, the SMPOA affiliated itself with the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) in order to provide our members with expert legal representation and council on labor related issues. Over five years later, the SMPOA has grown into a large organization that represents the majority of officers employed with SMPD.

From our inception, it has been our policy not to call citizens on the telephone to ask for donations, and we actively supported legislation to ban phone solicitation in the name of law enforcement. Governor Bush signed this legislation into law effective September 1, 1997. Our motto has been, "We may call and ask for your vote, but we will never call and ask for money".

We in the SMPOA are proud of our accomplishments. We have successfully lobbied for important changes in benefits that affect not only San Marcos Officers, but all city employees. We are there for our officers in times of need and have made contributions to individual citizens and groups within our community.

The financial base for the SMPOA is through membership dues and donations from businesses, groups, and concerned citizens within our community. We have established scholarship funds, and have donated to several worth while charities and organizations in the community. To see what contributions the SMPOA has made in the past, click HERE.
